Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about buying securely, selling your commodities, and our agent verification process.

How does the verification process work?

Before funds settle and an item is dispatched, a Marketplace Africa verification agent conducts an on-site physical inspection at the vendor's location. They verify the condition, quantity, and authenticity of the goods to ensure they match the listing description exactly.

How do bids and reserve prices work in Bid Markets?

In the Bid Markets, vendors list rare items with an auction timer (from 1 hour to 30 days). Buyers place competitive bids. If the seller sets a reserve price (which they can choose to hide), your bid must meet or exceed it. The highest valid bid when the timer ends wins the item.

How do payments work and what is the 15% fee?

All payments are securely held in escrow until verification is complete. A 15% operations and verification fee is automatically added to the vendor's listing price to form the final reserve or buy-now price. The vendor receives their full listing price, while the 15% covers the physical agent verification, operational dispatch, and buyer protection.

How are dispatch and delivery handled?

Once a purchase is made or an auction is won, a dispatch assignment is created for our local verification agent. After the agent visits the vendor and approves the item's condition, the item is cleared for dispatch and delivery to your specified location.

What is the refund policy if something goes wrong?

If an item fails our agent verification or significantly differs from its listing description, you are protected. You can submit a claim via our Support form, and our dispute resolution team will finalize a refund decision within a strict 48-hour timeline.

How is my payment held during a purchase?

When you check out, your payment is held securely in escrow and is not passed to the supplier yet. The funds stay protected for the entire verification period, so your money is never released before your order is confirmed.

When are funds released to the supplier?

Funds are released only after a Marketplace Africa verification agent inspects the goods at the supplier's location and confirms they match the listing's condition, quantity and description. If verification fails, the funds remain held and you are refunded.

What do I do if my goods arrive wrong or late?

Open a claim from your order reference within 48 hours of delivery, or of the expected delivery date. We immediately freeze the funds and our dispute team investigates. If your claim is upheld, you receive a full refund, and the supplier is not paid.
